Due to Margherita’s work with Charities and Community Organisations, from time to time she receives mentions in the news. She is very grateful for the ongoing enthusiasm and support.
Caritas – News of Project Launch
In 2010 I had the lovely opportunity to work with Patricia Ryan from Caritas. Together we came up with the goal of raising $10,000 for Caritas via family portraiture.
I put together a special super-value Family Portrait package and the proceeds from each pack purchased was contributed to reach the goal.
Almost every weekend you can see me in some of the lovely parks around Brisbane the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast photographing lots of colourful families. It was amazing how many have really wanted to organise family portraits over the years but have kept putting it off. This project is a great opportunity to catch up on the old portraits that hadn’t been taken for years.
Lots of mums tell me that their family photos were at least 10 years old and some of the babies weren’t even in them, so it was the perfect opportunity.
The special thing about this project is it will go towards helping other families in other places. It’s exciting to marry family portraits from local families here in Australia with the great work of assisting people around the world with their family lives.
Bonnie Babes Foundation
The Bonnie Babes Foundation was founded in 1994 to provide grief counselling to families experiencing stillbirths, miscarriage, premature births and infant loss.
I really enjoyed my time photographing all the babies and children of Brisbane up to the age of 15 over several years. These images were published in gorgeous children’s books around Australia. I spent time in lots of parks around Brisbane photographing kids babies and families and the book raised much needed funds for a vital counseling service.
I have spent over 15 years as a specialist baby photographer and it gives me much joy and pleasure photographing wiggly babies. The toddlers can sometimes be a challenge but are always gorgeous. Teenagers are often at that age where they want something a bit more modern and urban looking with a bit of character and attitude. It was a great pleasure to create lots of different looks in different styles for all the families participating.
The biggest takeaway for me whilst working with the Bonnie Babes was the heartfelt stories of the families I got to know personally. Many families were supporting the great work of the Bonnie Babes Foundation, whilst others I met had been touched personally by infant loss.
Getting to spend time with them talking about their experiences as a family was a gift, and I really thank them for sharing their stories with with me. When I look at all the portraits from this project they trigger some special memories and emotions. It was a true pleasure working on this project.
Caritas – Project Progress Report
It was a real surprise to see my face on the front cover of the Catholic Leader recently.
“Margarita Gregory donating her talents” Page 24.
It was a great article written by Paul Dobbyn. It was nice to be recognised as trying to make a difference, and it’s great to have the opportunity to contribute.
Caritas – Project Update Feature
Here’s the full page back page article written about Kiss Photography in the Catholic Leader in 2011.
It was fun to share the page with Pope Benedict XV1 !
It was documenting a milestone in the quest to raise $10,000 for Caritas by photographing lots of family portraits around Brisbane, Queensland, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast. It’s been awesome meeting so many wonderful families in the community. I’m privy to lots of fascinating stories about their own family history. They regularly tell me how special the portraits of their grandparents and parents are. It’s great to contemplate all the historic images from the past and how one day the portraits I was capturing would also become very special family heirlooms – it’s a lovely feeling to be creating history right now!
Celebration – $10,000 Fund Raising Goal Achieved!
It was great to meet up with Joseph Foley from Caritas recently to formally recognise the achievement of our fund raising goal. It has been a tremendous effort and we thank everyone for the support we have received in making this project a reality.
And.. we have great news!
The project has been such a success that together we’ve decided to continue with the initiative. Kiss Photography will be making the popular Caritas Portrait packages available again and we have reset the goal to raise a further $8000.
Joseph and I can be seen here with some of the family photos I have taken in the journey to $10,000.
Amazingly also on the right hand side of this article is a picture I took for the Project Compassion 2013 launch in Brisbane. I managed to get a picture together of all the different schools who attended on the day and hear about their work.
Another great inspiration was Sister Julienne Hayes. She updated us about the amazing work of the safe motherhood program in Bangladesh. The program trains midwives in best practice and has made dramatic improvements in women’s health during child birth.
It was wonderful to know that in a small way, some of our efforts were going towards the continuation of such an important project.
