Why Should You Get Winter Portraits?

family portraitThe winter months have just come to a close, but they’re still great for portraits. I’m going to touch on what I like about them. Here in Queensland, winter can either last a few months or just one or two weeks, but we find it an immense relief from the heat, as well as the perfect chance for photographs. I love taking winter portraits. I am going to give a few reasons why waiting for Spring or Summer portraits isn’t always necessary.

1. You Will Not Have To Rush At Christmas time

I know that many of my clients want to get family portraits for Christmas to give out to friends and family members. Many times, you might find yourself in a rush to get portraits taken because you will be busy, and suddenly November shows up giving you only a few weeks to get portraits taken, printed, framed, and wrapped. Winter portraits allow you to take great Christmas portraits where you are not sweating or uncomfortable, while also giving you the ability to get the portraits all finished in time to give as Christmas presents.

2. The Parks Will Be Empty

One of the great things about winter portraits is that you can go to any park, and we can take photographs in any location because the parks will be empty. Hardly anyone goes to parks in the winter months, which gives you the ability to simply drive up to a location, get out, take photographs, and drive to another area. No need for prams either, because of being able to drive straight to your chosen location. I have been able to take some stunning shots of families while at empty parks. I once found a gorgeous fig tree for a family to take a photograph in; the tree had a split down the middle that was perfect for lighting, as well as keeping them out of the chilly wind. It turned out to be a magical portrait.

3. You Will Have A More Open Schedule

Winter can be busy, but nowhere near as busy as spring and summer. You might find that you have more weekends that are open right now, whereas once spring hits, you will have five things popup suddenly. This makes it difficult to get your portraits taken and is the main reason you will find yourself pushing them off until November. When you realise you have a free weekend or two coming up, it is time to schedule winter portraits!

In Closing, Winter Portraits Are Perfect..

If you want to get your portraits taken in the winter months, contact me and we can figure out some excellent spots for the photographs. You will feel really relieved that you can get your portraits taken before the busy spring and summer hit. Winter portraits have their own touch of beauty and magic that is different to spring or summer. I promise, you will love how these portraits turn out. It’s always a good idea to book in the first free moment you have, no matter what season, as life has a habit of filling up any gaps. Before you know it 10 years have passed !!

Photos – Evolution of a Reluctant Dad

Photos - Evolution of a reluctant Dad Family portraits can be difficult enough with all of our busy lives, but many times it is made more difficult by reluctant people with a busy schedule or a little shy and so not excited about having photographs taken. Here’s a light-hearted look at Photos – Evolution of a Reluctant Dad.

The Tentative Phone Call..

When anyone calls me for photographs, it is usually the mum or wife, and I have encountered several who have said they were not sure how they would tell their partners because he did not like getting his photo taken. Lets explore how to get photographs of a reluctant partner or father, as well as give you a few tips for how to convince them that family portraits can be fun!

Blokes Having Fun

A great way to get photographs of a reluctant partner or father is to show him different photographs of other blokes having fun. If you take a look through my gallery, you will see several different styles and fun times that will be excellent to show him. Many men seem to think that photographs are similar to when they were children where ‘Aunt Martha’ would take an hour or more constantly snapping shots of everyone together. In addition, they might think of family portraits as something that happens in a stuffy, uncomfortable studio.

Tell Them It Won’t Hurt a Bit!

It is important to make the portrait session one that is fun in order to get photographs of a reluctant partner or father. I can take photographs of your family out at your home with your husband’s favourite pet or car; many men quite enjoy various shots with the items they enjoy. If you cannot do a session with larger items, consider bring something fun that he enjoys. If he enjoys playing footie with your children, then bring the ball with you and have them all play for some excellent photographs. Whatever it is, finding something he enjoys will help make the process much easier for him.

Relaxed Clothing Is The Key

Another great way to get photographs of a reluctant partner or father is to have him, as well as everyone else, wear relaxed clothing. Some of the outfits that many men seem to like wearing are jeans and polo shirts. This will help him feel more relaxed at the session instead of feeling awkward like he would at a studio. This awkwardness can usually cause arguments long before the session. It is important to note that you might still have arguments as they are normal to have before the session. However, I am able to set everyone at ease once they get there, making everyone laugh and just have a wonderful time.

Proud BBQ Stories!

These above tips will be perfect to get photographs of a reluctant Dad, and help the whole process go by seamlessly. The end product is amazing, and he will be more likely to talk about these particular portraits once you receive them. Some of my clients have phoned me and told me how their partner talked proudly about the photographs, which is wonderful! Never fear, it is possible to get great photographs of reluctant people, even your reluctant partner. Contact me today to set up a fun family session.

Lifestyle Portraits for Couples

happy engagementEvery family is different, and each family has interests, hobbies, and other lifestyle elements that make them truly unique. Some families have many children, and some have few, while others are just a couple; I love working with all and finding perfect shots that are the best for each family. I am going to take a look at a few lifestyle portraits I have done. Hopefully, this will give you a great idea for a new portrait session!

Motorbikes and Cars are Perfect Lifestyle Portraits

I did a portrait session for a couple who enjoyed Mercedes autos, and they wanted to do a photo shoot with their vehicles. This turned out gorgeous and looked like something you would see in automobile advertisements. We went to a few lane ways in Brisbane that were surrounded by Jacarandas, and I was able to capture some incredible portraits of the couple together with their autos, as well as individual portraits. They were quite excited to hang one of the portraits in their lounge room because they absolutely loved it!

I also did a photo session for a couple who loved motorbikes and wanted me to capture them with their bikes. We went to an old abandoned warehouse and had quite the magical portrait session. I captured them with their helmets under their arms, wearing leather jackets – it was just who they are.I loved capturing these elements because I knew I was capturing exactly who these various couples were. They were able to have some stunning portraits that they could proudly show off to others.

Capturing Your Dream Home

Other things that many people are proud of are their homes. This could be a dream home you’ve spent months and years building or a home that has been in your family for generations. I did a portrait session just like that for a client on a farm that had been in their family for a long time. I was able to capture them with the home behind them, the dam that is part of the farm, and the gorgeous fields. It helped make some stunning portraits that this family could be happy with and that captured something they were proud of and enjoyed greatly. It was quite a beautiful session.

Other Hobbies or Interests

Not everyone collects something that is large or has a particular interest such as dream home, but I can capture anything you take pride in. For example, if you are training for a half marathon or you enjoy sculpting I can perfectly capture the elements that surround each one. I will gladly take some gorgeous shots at your favourite training location or can take portraits with your art, or whatever your particular interests are.

Get A Portrait Session that Perfectly Captures You

Now that you know you can get portraits that capture your favourite hobbies and interests, contact me to set up a session. I will gladly talk over what interests you and make sure to capture it perfectly. Capturing who someone truly is is something I greatly enjoy!
